Leeds reacts to first snow of 2020 - but it wasn't quite a 'polar surge'

It was such a light flurry that some of you may not have even realised, but Leeds witnessed its first snowfall of the year this morning.

At around 11.30am, a few snowflakes began falling across the city.

Plenty of people in Leeds city centre reacted, but others in west Leeds and to the north of the city also spotted it.

Of course, social media goes into meltdown at the slightest hint of snow and today was no different.

The brief wintry storm passed in a matter of minutes and none of the white stuff stuck, but it didn't stop plenty of people from posting pictures and videos on social media.

Here are some of your reactions as snow fell on Leeds today.

Last week, the Met Office predicted that the UK would be hit by a "polar surge", but today's snowfall was a far cry from the "huge snow storms" that were forecast.

We've got some way to go to match the scenes in early 2018, when the Beast from the East blanketed the entire city in a thick layer of snow for several days, causing travel disruption and closing hundreds of schools.
