Leeds United pursue deal for Chelsea youngster as Andrea Radrizzani outlines spending plans

Here is your Leeds United morning digest for Sunday, September 13.

Carragher criticises harsh penalty decision against Leeds

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has admitted that his former side were dealt a significant boost in a penalty decision that went against Leeds United.

Mohamed Salah scored from the penalty spot twice on Saturday evening but Carragher was particularly unimpressed with the first decision which went in Liverpool’s favour.

Summer signing Robin Koch was adjudged to have handled in the box but Carragher told Sky Sports that it was a poor decision from the referee.

He said: “It took a deflection, Michael Oliver might not have seen that. It’s extremely harsh to give that as a penalty.

“I can’t believe that to be honest, I know the handball rule has changed but that’s actually really poor. It’s a harsh decision against Koch, in his first game.”

Radrizzani outlines plans for more transfer spending

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani has outlined the club’s ambition to spend between £35m and £50m in the current transfer window.

Despite landing both Rodrigo and Robin Koch for sizable fees, he told the Financial Times that he has big plans for the future of the club.

When asked about his expectations for survival in the Premier League this season and beyond, Radrizzani replied: “Why not? We’re now finally starting to play our game.

"The target in five years is to be behind the Big Six," he added.

"If we get there in terms of sports results and we have a very solid business . . . then we can be worth in the region of £600m-£1bn.

Leeds chasing highly-rated Chelsea midfielder - reports

Leeds are reportedly in the race to sign highly-rated Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher on a permanent deal.

According to the Daily Mail , the Whites are willing to spend money on the midfielder as a result of the confidence they have in his abilities to fit into Marcelo Bielsa’s system.

Other Premier League sides such as Aston Villa and West Brom have been linked with loan moves for the youngster who spent last season out on loan with Swansea City in the Championship.

While Gallagher is believed to be on Leeds’ radar, the report also states that Chelsea are eager to tie him down to a new deal before allowing him out on loan.
