Leeds Pride celebrations continue despite coronavirus cancelling magical parade

Coronavirus has seen so many incredible events in Leeds cancelled this year already.

Leeds United fans weren't able to celebrate their side's promotion to the Premier League in the stadium, while Leeds Festival and the West Indian Carnival were also curtailed by the global pandemic.

Today (Sunday) was meant to be one of the loudest and most vibrant celebrations of the year, with a spectacular Leeds Pride parade scheduled for the city centre.

The outrageous outfits and fabulous floats weren't on show this year though, with the organisers urging people to safely celebrate one of the country's biggest LGBT+ festivals at home instead.

It's fair to say Leeds did not disappoint, with hundreds of people getting into the party atmosphere right across the city.

The organisers encouraged people to dress up in their best outfits and join in the celebrations virtually, using the hashtags #LeedsVirtualPride and #LeedsPrideAtHome.

The scenes on Sunday - albeit far less raucous than Leeds pride of recent years - kickstarted a full week of activities to celebrate Pride in Leeds.

To see what else is planned for the rest of the week, take a look at the Leeds Virtual Pride 2020 programme here.
