A West Yorkshire police officer was bitten on the arm, punched in the face and poked in the eye after attending an incident in Morley.
Police were called to Glen Road at 7.13pm last night (Sunday) to a domestic incident where the officer was attacked. Two other attending police officers were also injured in the incident.
Incapacitant spray was used to arrest a 55-year-old man on suspicion of assault and threatening to commit damage and a 43-year-old woman on suspicion of obstructing officers in the execution of their duty. Both remain in custody.
Emergency assistance was requested and additional units responded.
The officer was treated in hospital and later released. Two other officers also received minor injuries during the incident.
Appropriate support has been put in place in regards to the welfare of the officer assaulted.
In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said that it "condemns any assaults on its staff and treats all such incidents very seriously.
"The Force is continuing to campaign for the toughest possible penalties to be applied to those who commit offences against its staff and other emergency workers as they work to protect the public and keep communities safe."
