Leeds photographer explains painstaking lengths he went to for stunning supermoon photo

A talented photographer from Leeds has said he had to wait for more than six months to capture an incredible photo of the supermoon rising above the city.

Antony Newby, 49, is well-known on many Facebook community forums for his stunning pictures - but his latest snap is arguably his greatest yet.

While many people shared their pictures of the supermoon on Tuesday, Antony actually waited until Wednesday night to capture the pink moon as it rose above Leeds city centre.

He said he has "stood in fields freezing cold" for several months with no luck, but the conditions happened to be just right on Wednesday evening.

'The moon is one of the most beautiful sights you will ever see'

"It rises once a month like that and this month it was really pink," he said.

"It's an amazing feeling. The moon is just one of the most naturally beautiful sights you will ever see, but you have to be quick. It only stayed like that for a minute or two."

The picture has been shared far and wide on Facebook, with Antony's post gaining plenty of likes from admiring fans.

He posted the picture online with the caption: "I got my moon shot. The pink supermoon rising over Leeds tonight!

"I have planned this shot every month since September but it's been too hazy or cloudy or raining.

"I've been stood in fields freezing cold waiting and no show but tonight the sky was clear and I finally saw the most amazing sight again!

"I love the moon and I love seeing the full moon rise. I am so happy... I hope you love it too!!!"

Antony also wants to help other people to improve their photography skills during the lockdown and is offering hints, tips and equipment on his Facebook page, Trailblazer photography.
