Leeds 'open talks' with Celtic over Leo Hjelde as they eye Hoops transfer

Leeds have opened talks with Celtic over Leo Hjelde, according to a report.

The defender spent the second half of last season on loan at Ross County and has been involved in pre-season plans.

But now English Premier League side Leeds want to sign the Norwegian and have reportedly opened talks.

The Daily Mail say they have been monitoring the 18-year-old for a while and want to take him to England.

The club are looking to build a group of young players who can go straight into Marcelo Bielsa’s squad if needed.

And they’ve targeted the highly-rated Hjelde as one of those youngsters.

He’s been used as a sub by Ange Postecoglou in pre-season and is tipped to have a big career ahead of him.

Hjelde joined Celtic from Rosenberg and was compared to Virgil van Dijk by his Ross County boss John Hughes.

He made 12 appearances for the Highland side last season and scored one goal, but is yet to make a competitive debut for the Celtic Park side.
