Leeds North West General Election 2019 result

Alex Sobel has been re-elected as the MP for Leeds North West.

It was the only seat in Leeds branded "too close to call" in the exit poll, but the Labour candidate emerged as the winner in the 2019 General Election.

Mr Sobel, who claimed a shock victory over Liberal Democrat Greg Mulholland in 2017,  took 23,971 votes in this year's election - over 10,00 more than runner up Stewart Harper.

After the result was announced, he said: "I am going to reflect over the next few days, what happened, what went wrong, the conversations I had on the doorstep and what people said to me.

“I think the Labour party needs to take this period of time to reflect over that and to choose a new leader."
