Leeds neighbours' shock after winning £330,000 on People's Postcode Lottery

Eleven lucky Leeds neighbours bagged £30,000 each after their street won £330,000 on the People's Postcode Lottery.

The neighbours' postcode in LS21 was announced as the winner on Monday.

One of those to bag the huge £30,000 prize was 55-year-old Michael Lawrence who mistook the lottery's call for "one of the lads having a joke."

Michael said the win comes at the perfect time with his family expecting a new arrival: "It was great news. I’m expecting my third grandchild next week so it couldn’t have come at a better time.”

He added he intends to spend some of the money on putting down a deposit on the home he has rented for 20 years.

Michael also hopes to treat his wife. He said: "She’s already talking about a new bathroom! We need to sit down and discuss it all, no doubt with a bottle of wine."

And he said the neighbours "might get together for a drink on the green this weekend" to properly celebrate the win.

Another winner was Susan Howson, 48, who almost missed out on the windfall after moving away from the winning street.

The mum-of-two recently moved but was still playing the lottery with her old postcode. She said: "I couldn’t believe my luck. I moved a week or two ago!"

Susan added she plans to use her winnings to help achieve a long-awaited ambition: "I’m going to go into business for myself. I’m a caterer and I’ve been saving towards doing this for a while. This was the icing on the cake."

The other winners wished to remain anonymous.

People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson said: "I could not be happier for our winners in Otley - what an amazing way to start the week. It sounds like a lovely community and I hope they all have fun with their winnings."
