Leeds murders: Body of man suspected of killing mother and her two children is found in Wales

Police investigating the murders of a woman and her two children have found the body of their suspected killer in Wales.

The bodies of a mother - named locally as store manager Geraldine Newman - and her daughter and son were found dead in their home in Beeston Way, Allerton Bywater, near Leeds shortly before midday today.

West Yorkshire Police said the body of a man - who has not been named - was found on cliffs in South Stack, Anglesey at 5pm this afternoon.

Detective Chief Inspector Warren Stevenson, of West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: "The man's identity is yet to be confirmed but we are liaising closely with our colleagues in North Wales Police as we believe this may be linked to our investigation in Leeds."

It is believed a friend of Ms Newman  - known as Gerry -  raised the alarm after they became concerned that she had not been seen or heard from in days.

A neighbour said the family - which included Ms Newman, her 12-year-old daughter Shannon and six-year-old son Shane - had lived on the street for around five years and “kept themselves to themselves”.

She told the Yorkshire Post: “We are just really shocked and sad.

“You just don’t know what’s happening on your doorstep.

“The kiddies used to play outside on their scooters.”

Neighbours were reportedly in tears after police arrived at the home and told them the news.

One man said there was “a good sense of community” on the estate and that “crime is relatively low”.

He said: “I’m shocked and saddened. I’m surprised and a bit confused about it all.”
