Leeds mum to stage anti-child trafficking march through city centre

A Leeds mum is urging people to join a protest through the heart of Leeds city centre which will highlight the "tragedy" of child trafficking.

Bronte Best, 27, has set up the event later this month after growing increasingly concerned about the issue while studying to become a counsellor and psychotherapist.

A Home Office report identified that there were 10,627 potential victims of human trafficking in the UK in 2018, with nearly half (4,550) aged 18 or under.

It is statistics such as these that have led Bronte to try and highlight the issue to make people more aware of how endemic the problem is on our own doorstep.

"I want to bring to issue more into the public eye," said Bronte, who has set up the event alongside friends Kellie Sarsfield and Chelsea Reith.

"I'm a mother myself and I just want to make sure the vulnerable - and particularly children - are looked after and people are looking out for them.

"With every fibre of my body, I feel like I need to do something."

The march has been organised for Sunday, August 16, with hundreds of people already signing up via Facebook.

Crowds are expected to gather outside Leeds Town Hall at around midday to listen to speeches from the organisers and several others, including Predator Exposure - a vigilante paedophile hunter group.

The march is then planned to begin at 3pm, with the group walking along The Headrow and down Briggate.

"This is going to be the first of many events," said Bronte. "It's not just going to be a one-off."
