Leeds mum's message to disabled woman terrorised by teenage yobs in her own home

A mum-of-three from Leeds has reached out to a disabled woman who revealed she is "terrified" of living in her own home after being terrorised by yobs.

Jenii, who is a wheelchair user and has Ehler-Danlos Syndrome, moved into her own home in Crossgates last year in a bid to gain more independence from her parents.

However, teenagers have tried to break into her home and even tried to fight and intimidate Jenii's partner, who has autism.

When Samantha Longbottom read LeedsLive's article about the cruel attacks on Jenii, she said it took her back to her own childhood.

She said: "My nanna and granddad live in the area with my auntie, who is wheelchair-bound and has cerebral palsy and spina bifida.

"People would make comments instead of trying to understand the individual, but any one of us could have been born with a disability."

Samantha has now reached out to Jenii in a bid to offer her support in the face of adversity.

"I just think it's good that people know there is always the support out there," said Samantha.

"Not everyone is as mean and malicious as those kids. People are bullying her and trying to make her feel worthless, but she is a strong person. She has gained her own independence by moving out of her parents' house.

"No matter what happens, if she reaches out she will and can get all the support she needs.

"There are kind people out there and Jenii just needs to know we are out there for her."

In an interview with LeedsLive, Jenii also revealed that children on the estate have broken into her elderly neighbours' homes.

All of the complaints have been reported to officers from West Yorkshire Police, but she said other residents from the area have also complained about teenagers roaming around on motorbikes, screaming late at night and drug dealing on the streets, with dog walkers also claiming that they have had stones thrown at them.

"I’ve got carers and support workers when they're driving up to the house, they have people swearing at her or they’re on the bikes doing wheelies," said Jenii.

"We have reported it before and it feels like no one is listening to us and my carer has reported it to the police too and the council but no one's listening.

"A lot of my neighbours who are vulnerable are scared to sit in their gardens because of the anti-social behaviour.

"This is the first time I’ve moved out, I used to live with my parents and I was hoping it was going to be a fresh start but now I feel terrified."
