Leeds morning headlines as Lopetegui identified as Bielsa successor and Raphinha earns plaudits

Here are the Leeds United morning headlines for Sunday, November 29.

Match-winner Raphinha praised by Phillips

Kalvin Phillips was delighted for team-mate Raphinha after the Brazilian’s first goal for the Whites sealed victory over Everton.

The winger opened his Leeds account with a well-taken 79th-minute winner in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Goodison Park.

The summer signing from Rennes fired past Jordan Pickford from the edge of the area as Marcelo Bielsa’s men claimed a 1-0 win.

“It’s a special moment for Rapha,” Phillips told Sky Sports.

“We’ve been telling him he’s going to score a goal whenever he gets the chance.

“He’s come close the last few weeks but he finally got one today.

“He’s very good. He’s got everything and to come into the shortly after being signed, he’s done excellent.”

Souness also impressed with Brazilian

The plaudits just kept on coming for Raphinha, with Graeme Souness also effusive in his praise for the Brazilian after his match-winning contribution for Leeds United against Everton.

“He’s a flair play, but he works his socks off,” Liverpool legend Souness told Sky Sports.

“I think there’s a goal in him. There’s a lot to like about him.

“He’s one of those players, because he runs with the ball, apart from having the ability, he works very hard when they don’t have the ball.

“We talk about players coming to our football, players like him – flair players – sometimes they need a bit of time to settle into our game, but he seems to have got it right away.”

Sevilla manager favourite for Leeds job should Bielsa leave

Leeds United will target Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui should manager Marcelo Bielsa decide to pack his bags at any point.

According to The Sun, Lopetegui is a favourite of Leeds owner Andrea Radizanni, having restored his name with a successful spell at Sevilla..

He was sacked as Spain national team coach and then by Real Madrid before joining Sevilla, whom he led to fourth place in La Liga and a sixth Europa League title.

Lopetegui came close to taking charge at Wolves in 2016 before accepting the Spain job.
