Barry Douglas opens up on decision to leave Leeds United in summer
Barry Douglas has spoken about his decision to leave Leeds United for Blackburn Rovers in the summer in the search of first team football.
The Scottish left back left Elland Road after losing his place in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting lineup last season, joining Blackburn on a season-long loan. Douglas has revealed he had the option to stay at Leeds, but wanted to keep pushing himself.
“Football is a short career, I’d never rest on my laurels,” Douglas said. “I could have stayed at Leeds, I wanted to stay and compete for a place, but I wasn’t guaranteed football.
“I felt the onus was on me to make that decision and that’s the way that I approach things. I don’t want to be comfortable, I want to go and challenge myself and that’s how I address things.”
Leeds United receive defensive boost ahead of Leicester City fixture
Bielsa has received a defensive boost ahead of Leeds United’s Premier League fixture against Leicester City, with Liam Cooper returning to the squad for Monday night’s match.
The Whites skipper has missed the last two Premier League matches through injury after picking up a groin injury while on international duty with Scotland, but Bielsa confirmed in Friday’s press conference that Cooper will be back against Leicester City.
Otherwise, Bielsa kept his cards close to the chest over the rest of his team selection, but Cooper’s return could see him slot back into the centre of the Leeds United defence.
Leeds will still be without Kalvin Phillips for Monday’s game against Leicester City while Diego Llorente is another player who will be missing for the Whites.
Former Leeds United defender sends warning ahead of Leicester City match
Tony Dorigo has sent a warning to Leeds United ahead of their Premier League clash against Leicester City on Monday night.
The former Whites defender is worried by the threat the Foxes will pose, highlighting how Brendan Rodgers’ side are set up to play on the counter attack and how that could expose Leeds United.
“If there’s a team that set up to worry me, it’s Leicester,” Dorigo told LUTV. “The way that they play and on the counter, the ability they’ve got with the likes of Tielemans, Barnes, they brought in Castagne and obviously Vardy.
“It’s a team that’s made for counter-attacks, so we have to be very, very careful. However, we can make chances again, that’s what we will do - we’ll ask plenty of questions about their defence.”
