Leeds misses out on huge Harry Potter display - but it will come to Yorkshire

Our city has narrowly missed out on the chance to host an amazing Harry Potter display, but fear not Potter fans, it WILL be coming to Yorkshire.

Leeds was one of eight finalists hoping to host the 'Wizarding World Wands supporting Lumos' installation, which cast a spell on the people of London when it was based at St. Paul's Cathedral.

Leeds narrowly missed out on the chance to host the wands in a public vote, with Hull, Stoke, Reading and Birmingham chosen as the four lucky cities.

For any Potter fans out there the Hull installation will be the closest location, with it only taking a one hour train journey to reach the east Yorkshire city.

The four cities will host the magical installation in the lead up to the release of the third Fantastic Beasts film, which arrives in UK cinemas on November 21, 2021.

Hull will host the wands for a week - the date has not yet been announced.

The display is in aid of the charity Lumos. Named after the light-giving spell in Harry Potter, Lumos was founded in 2005 and aims to help children out of orphanages and other institutions.
