Leeds Masterchef Matt Healy takes next cooking challenge in Channel 5's newest Yorkshire show

Channel 5's brand new show Our Great Yorkshire Life is into its third week and it's been a heart-warming showing of some of the most beautiful areas of the county.

This week's episode saw journalist Christa Ackroyd visit York Minster to show the restorations that are currently taking place as well as award-winning chef Matt Healy show off his latest project.

Viewers were amazed to see the Channel 5 crew look deeply into how the iconic York Minster is preserved with Christa showing much of it is done by hand.

Christa is a familiar face for Yorkshire viewers, spending many years on Calendar and Look North.

However the main focus of this week's episode followed Matt Healy, known for his time on Masterchef, and the next challenge he's taking on.

The Horsforth born chef was shown to be working on opening his own bar and restaurant and as he told the cameras of his plan, viewers got a glimpse into how Matt's project was developing.

But shortly after, they saw Matt take on perhaps the bigger challenge.

Working with Barry, owner of the iconic Fortunes Smokehouse in Whitby, Matt seemed a little panicked when he was put up against him.

It was an unusual challenge for Matt (Channel 5)

Speaking to Barry, Matt said: "There's a rumour that you can fillet these in less than ten seconds so I'm really intrigued to see that, because I'm pretty handy with a knife."

Viewers saw both men work with the fish, following it through from filleting to brine to the smokehouse itself, but it was clear that fishmonger Barry had the upper hand.

Last week's episode saw the Yorkshire Vet give a very sweet surprise to his wife for their 35th anniversary, taking a trip to the beautiful North Yorkshire town of Knaresborough.

In all, it was quite the change of pace to what Masterchef Matt is probably used to when working in the kitchen!

Our Great Yorkshire Life returns on Channel 5 for another laid back look at the people and places of our county next Thursday at 8pm.
