Leeds man on the run after climbing over prison fence to escape

Police are on the lookout for a man from Leeds who escaped jail at the weekend after climbing a perimeter fence.

Kearon Tyrone Hunte, 31, formerly of Roundhay Road, Leeds, was jailed for for six years after he was found guilty of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

He was serving time behind bars at HMP Kirkham in Lancashire - but jumped over a fence at the penal institute on Saturday, October 5.

As reported by LancsLive, the local force have issued an appeal for information in a bid to trace Hunte and put him back in prison.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “Hunte is wanted by police after escaping HMP Kirkham. We would urge anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

“We would also encourage Hunte to come forward and speak to police immediately.”

Hunte is described as black, 5ft 10in tall, of medium build with black hair and brown eyes and has links to the Leeds and the wider West Yorkshire area.

Anyone with information can contact police on (01253) 604100 quoting log 1418 of October 5.

Alternatively independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online.
