“Life has to go on,” is the message from one Leeds man preparing to fly to Ibiza later this week.
Dan Whiteley and 15 of his friends have booked a holiday to Spain for a stag do as airports and holiday resorts try to return to normal again.
The 25-year-old, who has continued to follow Government guidelines on coronavirus during lockdown, says after the stress of the pandemic he feels like he needs a holiday.
The group were originally booked to go to Portugal when the pandemic hit, and thought they might not be able to get away - but saw a ray of hope when travel restrictions were eased earlier this month.
However, with restrictions still in place in Portugal, the group has now changed their destination to Ibiza to prevent them from losing their cash - and managed to save £100 on the Jet2.com holiday in the process.
Dan said: “I understand why some people will be annoyed as people take stuff more seriously than others but life can’t stop either.
“After all this, I feel like I need a holiday more than if I’d just been at work. It’s been awful, I’ve been getting by with money from my part-time job.
“We just needed to fill forms to say we’re well and that’s the only thing that’s not normal.
“Before booking the holiday, we were looking on social media to see what it’s like out there and it looks just as busy as it would be at this time of the year.
“We paid our money and checked everything we are doing is within the law, life has to go on whether people like it or not.
“We’ve really been looking forward to having a holiday for months and months, around April we thought we wouldn’t be going.”
Despite the concerns around travelling, Dan believes as long as they keep following advice such as washing their hands regularly, wearing face masks and using common sense they will remain safe from Covid-19.
