Leeds man, 42, hit by car and killed is named by police

West Yorkshire Police have identified a 42-year-old man who was hit by a car and killed earlier this month.

On Tuesday, July 5, Leeds Live reported a man was fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a white Audi A4. He was crossing the road at 4.55pm at the junction of Town Street and Wortley Road, and was later taken to hospital with a bad head injury.

On Thursday, July 7, West Yorkshire Police confirmed a 42-year-old sadly died. He has now been named as Tony Baggley who lives in Leeds.

The force arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian in Leeds can now release the name of the victim who sadly died. Enquiries remain ongoing into the incident which resulted in the death of Tony Baggley (42) from Leeds.

"He received fatal injuries after he was in collision with a white Audi A4 while crossing the road at the junction of Town Street and Wortley Road in Armley at about 4.55pm on July 5. A 30-year-old man arrested in connection with the death has been released under investigation.

"Officers have also arrested a second man (also aged 30) who has now been released on police bail. Enquiries remain ongoing by the Major Collision and Enquiry Team."

Anyone who witnessed the collision or the movements of the vehicle or the pedestrian prior to it, is asked to contact the Eastern Area Roads Policing Unit on 101 or by using the LiveChat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website. Anyone with dash cam footage or information that will assist this investigation is also asked to get in touch.
