Leeds-linked left-back Romain Perraud on Chelsea preference and why United would be a good fit

Romain Perraud has thoroughly impressed in Ligue 1 with Stade Brest this season, registering five assists and scoring three goals as the French club continue to establish themselves in the top flight.

For obvious reasons, the 23-year-old has attracted plenty of suitors due to his performances - Leeds United reportedly being one of them.

Speaking to French outlet MadeInFoot, the left-back who hails from Toulouse, has opened up extensively, providing fascinating insight on his life before football and his current position at Brest.

"Tactically, we know that we are a team that likes to start from behind. But now the teams know us, they watch our matches, everyone knows that Brest is a team that likes to relaunch short so the opponents come to press us.

"We have to have several strings to our bow," Perraud said in response to a question regarding being caught playing out from the back against Olympique Lyonnais.

Familiarity with this style of play and footballing philosophy will be one of the reasons Perraud has been earmarked as a potential buy for Leeds United.

Likewise, his work ethic and dynamism on the left-flank will be just as important.

"I give a lot of energy. I need to repeat runs. It can sometimes be a [detriment], because I want to be hyperactive so much that sometimes I get a little confused.

"When I was at Paris FC, I gave so much during the first 70 minutes that I had no gas left to finish. But I like it! I listen more to my body, and as the matches [go] you gain [more] experience," he says.

Perraud also admitted he follows the Premier League, because of the team he supports: Chelsea.

"It's true. I became a big fan of Chelsea when I was traveling to London with my father and my grandmother.

"The stadium was full and my father had managed to buy tickets to Stamford Bridge on the black market! I must have been between 9 and 11 years old, it was Chelsea vs Sunderland, a 5-0 victory.

"Since then, I have said to myself that I was going to follow this team and I still follow it today. It is my favorite team."

However, Perraud's first love was not Chelsea - it wasn't even football.

"My family is more rugby. My father played rugby, he also coached. The family on my mother's side are rugby players. It is only my grandfather who played football.

"Me, I did judo and at six I started playing football and I never gave up."

On his future and reported interest from top French clubs, as well as Leeds United, Perraud had very little to say.

"Interests are interests, I know what it is in football and that means everything and nothing, I don’t dwell on that too much, I have a contract with Brest, I’m fine here and then we’ll see what happens next.”
