Leeds LGBT+ clubs Viaduct Showbar and Fibre rescued from administration and 102 jobs saved

More than 100 jobs have been saved at two massively popular LGBT+ clubs in Leeds city centre.

It was initially announced yesterday that Viaduct Showbar and Bar Fibre, both located in Lower Briggate, had gone into administration.

But a spokesperson for APN Group, the firm that owns the two clubs, has now confirmed to LeedsLive they have been able to save 102 jobs at the nightclubs.

However, the firm also represents Club Mission, but this "couldn't be saved".

All three venues owned by Terry George went into administration on July 31 after facing financial difficulties due to coronavirus.

An online fundraising campaign was launched last month in a bid to try to save Mission from permanent closure.

A spokesperson for the three companies said: "Due to extraordinary circumstances related to COVID-19, Bar Fibre Limited, Viaduct Leisure Limited and Mission (Leeds) Limited sadly all went into administration on the 31st July 2020.

“Fortunately, we are pleased to have been able to save 102 jobs at Bar Fibre Ltd and Viaduct Leisure Ltd. Unfortunately, Mission couldn't be saved.

“The night time industry sector has suffered the most through the pandemic, with social-distancing measures being an anathema to the nightlife industry.

“We hope the government extends support for the sector into 2021 to ensure it's long term survival".
