Leeds legend Kevin Sinfield collects OBE in service at Windsor Castle

Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield has formally received his OBE from the Duke of Cambridge at Windsor Castle.

Sinfield, who was given the honour in the Queen's BIrthday Honours List in 2021, has been awarded an OBE for his incredible services to the sport of rugby league, as well as his herculean fundraising efforts for those suffering with Motor Neurone Disease.

Last month, the former England captain led a team who raised over £2.7million to not only support those with MND, but boost fundraising in attempts to find a cure for the condition. Those people include Sinfield's close friend and former team-mate at Leeds, Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with MND in 2019.

Sinfield also raised more than £2million in a separate challenge in November 2020, running seven marathons in as many days. There have been calls from the rugby league community to bestow an honour upon Sinfield ever since he began his fundraising efforts.

And he was given the OBE by the Duke at an investiture service at Windsor Castle on Wednesday.

Burrow's father Geoff said: "We've sung for years 'there's only one Sir Kevin Sinfield', so he's always been Sir Kevin to us.

"This just puts the icing on the cake - you couldn't give Kevin enough accolades. He cares for everybody who's been around him. Words can't describe what sort of a man he is."
