Leeds landmark named as one of 50 'favourite places' by national paper

A Leeds city centre landmark has been named in The Guardian's 'Something to celebrate: 50 favourite places in the UK' list.

Leeds City Museum in Millennium Square was selected for the list by Alexandra McEwan-Hannant, director for Leeds Pride.

Both the Leeds Pride parade and the Trans Pride Leeds marches start from the front of the museum, and McEwan-Hannant cited the inclusive nature of the site in her decision.

She said: "Built in 1819 to provide education for the city’s industrial workers, Leeds City Museum is now a vibrant hub for hundreds of community events; a fantastic place to spend a few hours with the Leeds Mummy; or discover something new on your lunch break."

"It is an inclusive space for the whole city, with great cake."

The museum has six galleries, and allows punters the chance to check out the mummy of Nesyammun in the Ancient Worlds Gallery.

Admission to the museum is free.

The Trans Pride march starts from the museum today (31/03), and Leeds Pride is on August 4, with events taking place across the city centre.
