Leeds knife attack: 'Black Friday' shoplifter stabs off-duty police officer

A Black Friday shoplifter has reportedly stabbed an off-duty police officer in a city centre shop in Leeds after he confronted him.

The incident was reported at 9.07am, just a few minutes after the store had opened for the Black Friday sales.

The male officer's suffered from several knife wounds to his neck, face and hands, according to the Yorkshire Post.

The policeman has reportedly been taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The suspect is said to be a 36-year-old man from Leeds. He was detained by store staff and has been arrested in connection with the incident, according to a police spokesman.

The HMV store is reportedly closed while the scene is undergoing forensic examination.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Leeds District CID via 101, quoting log number 344 of November 25.
