Leeds hospitals record no coronavirus deaths for almost three weeks

There have been no new coronavirus deaths recorded at Leeds hospitals in the last 24 hours - marking the 19th day in a row.

A further nine people who tested positive for the virus have died in hospitals in England, bringing the country's death toll to 29,563.

The patients were between 71 and 92 years old, and all but one of them had known underlying health conditions.

The date of death ranges from 6 to 31 August 2020, with the majority on or after 26 August. Their families have been notified.

No coronavirus related fatalities were recorded in Yorkshire hospitals meaning the death toll remains at 2,594.

Today, Leeds City Council chief executive Tom Riordan warned that the city is “bubbling under” the national COVID-19 watch list .

Mr Riordan claimed he did not believe the city was yet at a stage where it would have to consider introducing local lockdown measures, such as those seen in Kirklees, Bradford and Calderdale in recent weeks but warned the case rate in the city was rising.
