Leeds horror: 16-year-old girl stabbed to death; 14-year-old among four teens held for murder

A 16-year-old girl was killed in a suspected stabbing incident in Leeds, with police arresting multiple teenagers, including a 14-year-old boy, in connection with the case.

Chloe Watson Dransfield was found unconscious on a residential street in Austhorpe in the early hours of Saturday and later died in hospital, authorities said.

Police were called to Kennerleigh Avenue shortly before 6 am, where they discovered Chloe lying in the street with serious injuries.

She was rushed to hospital but could not be saved. Investigators believe she suffered fatal stab wounds, though full details of the attack have not been publicly disclosed.

Chloe, who was from Gomersal, had been described by her family as “beautiful, full of joy” in emotional tributes.

West Yorkshire Police said a 14-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

Earlier, three other teenagers: 18-year-old Kayla Smith, 19-year-old Archie Rycroft, and a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, were charged with Chloe’s murder.

The three appeared before Leeds Crown Court via video link but did not enter pleas.

During a brief hearing, the accused confirmed only their names and dates of birth. No bail applications were made, and all three were remanded in custody.

A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for May 1, while a provisional trial date has been set for November 10. The trial is expected to last more than two weeks.

Judge Guy Kearl said the case should be handled “as soon as possible” to avoid delays.

Police have appealed to the public for any mobile phone footage of the incident, which they believe may be circulating on social media.

Investigators say such evidence could be crucial in establishing what happened in the moments leading up to Chloe’s death.

Chloe’s parents paid heartfelt tributes, describing her as their “world” and saying her loss has left an “immeasurable” void.

Authorities said a second post-mortem examination was not required, offering some relief to the grieving family as the investigation continues.
