Leeds have not given up hope of persuading Ezgjan Alioski to stay at Elland Road

Leeds have not given up hope of persuading Ezgjan Alioski to remain at Elland Road.

Alioski has been expected to leave Leeds on a free transfer this summer because he has been unable to agree news terms with the club and appeared to say goodbye on the final day of last season.

But a proposed move to Galatasaray fell through and Alioski still has not found a new club with just a fortnight left before he becomes a free agent on July 1.

Leeds were adamant they would not submit a second contract offer to Alioski and their bid remains on the table.

It is understood director of football Victor Orta remains in contact with Alioski’s camp in case a last-minute deal can be brokered.

Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa does not want to lose Alioski after he had his best season at the club.

The versatile left-sided player, who can play full-back or on the wing, made 36 Premier League appearances as Leeds successfully re-established themselves back in the top flight after their 16-year absence.

Bielsa sees Alioski primarily as a winger, even though he slotted in well at left-back during the second half of the campaign.

Alioski, 29, may feel he can land a better contract as a free agent and he may also have reservations about how much game time he would get next season if he stayed at Leeds.

Leeds will sign a specialist left-back this season, while Jack Harrison is an ever-present on the left wing.

Alioski is keeping his options open and has been linked with Napoli in Italy.

He is currently with North Macedonia at Euro 2020 as they enjoy their first major finals.

He has been embroiled in a row with former West Ham and Stoke forward Marko Arnautovic after they clashed during Austria’s win over North Macedonia.

The pair come from rival ethic backgrounds in the Balkans and UEFA are investigating allegations Arnautovic may have made racist comments about Alioski.
