Leeds have been brilliant defensively - but they still cannot beat this Notts County record

Leeds United look a good bet to reclaim a place in the Premier League  thanks to an incredible defensive record.

They  have conceded just 10 goals  in their Championship campaign with Marco Bielsa hoping to pip West Brom in the race for the title.

Such is the quality of their defensive record that it  has sparked talk whether Leeds had set a new record in the history of  the second tier  in terms of goals conceded after 20 games.

But for all of their brilliance at the back, statisticians Stats Zone have worked out that  it actually belongs to Notts.

In 1922-23, the Magpies conceded just eight goals in 20 games, a record that looks like it is going to take some beating.

But if Leeds are looking for omens, they will be comforted to know that Notts ended up as title-winners that season.

They finished top of the league two points  ahead of West Ham to win promotion to Division One.

Ironically, Leeds were in the same division that season, but finished seventh in a league  that included Manchester United, Leicester City and Wolves.
