Leeds Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis claims airline kicked him out of first class

A Harry Potter star from Leeds has slammed an airline as the 'worst in North America' after alleging they booted him out of first class.

Actor Matthew Lewis took to Twitter on Friday, August 26, to complain after his experience flying with Air Canada. The star who got famous playing Neville Longbottom said the airline tore up his ticket.

He further claimed that the only explanation he was given was the flight was full, The Independent reports.

In a thread on social media, the actor wrote: "Confirmed. @AirCanada is the worst airline in North America. And that’s saying something.

"Kicking me out of first class to back of plane is what it is but doing it at the gate. Literally tearing my ticket up. No explanation other than “full flight”. Said if I wanted to sort it I should go to customer service. I asked where that was. “Toronto.” I’m in Orlando.

"Honestly never experienced anything like it. I’ve been bumped before. Comes with the territory. But at the gate, less than two minutes to boarding and without explanation or apology? Never. They even said if I wanna complain or get a refund I have to reach out to them!"

Many Twitter users were sympathetic to his experience, with some others saying they had also experienced issues with the airline. However, others were less sympathetic - pointing out that many airlines are experiencing issues post-pandemic.

Lewis told CTV News Toronto that he hadn't yet spoken to anyone from Air Canada about his experience. He added that we "should not be okay with normalizing the profiteering of overbooking flights and kicking people off flights.”

Air Canada replied to Lewis' tweet saying: "Hi Matthew, we regret hearing this. Please send us a DM with further details of the issue, we'll see if we can help from here."

Both the Independent and CTV News Toronto have reached out to Air Canada for further comment.
