People with tickets to the opening performance of Rock of Ages at Leeds Grand Theatre tonight (Monday) have been told that the show has been cancelled just a few hours before it was due to start.
The musical, which is set in LA and includes more than 20 classic rock anthems, was set for seven shows at the iconic Leeds theatre this week, with the first performance due to start at 7:30pm tonight.
However, a mechanical fault with the lorry lift means that the opening night performance has been cancelled at short notice.
It remains unclear whether any of this week's future performances in the 1,500-capacity auditorium have been affected too.
In a tweet, Leeds Grand Theatre said: "We are sorry to announce that tonight’s performance (Monday 29 July) of Rock of Ages has been cancelled. This is due to a mechanical fault with our lorry lift."

In June 2018, a performance of Wicked was cancelled after the theatre was evacuated following reports of a fire - although it later turned out to be false alarm and future shows went ahead as planned.
