Leeds flood warnings list as River Aire bursts its banks and train passengers warned not to travel

Flood warnings remain in place across Leeds after River Aire burst its banks due to Storm Christoph and more rain is expected.

Today (Thursday) a number of flood warnings remain in place across the city.

The severe weather is also causing travel problems, with rail companies warning passengers not to travel today.

National Rail said: "Due to the poor weather conditions on the railway and roads in the North West of England, Northern, TransPennine Express and East Midlands Railway are advising customers NOT TO TRAVEL."

Rain flooding the railway between Leeds and York is causing disruption between these stations. Trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised, National Rail warns.

Network Rail staff are on-site to monitor water levels and replacement buses have been requested to run between Leeds and York in both directions.

“Replacement road transport has been requested to operate between Leeds and York in both directions of travel, details will be provided when this confirmed.”

Flooding in Garforth, Northern services between Leeds and York via Garforth have been replaced by buses - 30 minutes past the hour for Leeds to York, and 15 minutes past the hour for York to Leeds.

The Met Office has said the weather in Leeds has highs of five degrees Celsius with lows of 2 degrees.

Heavy showers are predicted from 10am with 70 per cent chance of precipitation but sleet is expected from 11am before this changes to heavy rain at 12pm.
