Leeds Festival 'not cancelled' despite local MP saying it has been called off

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article said Leeds Festival had been cancelled, as confirmed by a local MP. Organisers Festival Republic claim no decision has been made yet and it has not taken the decision to cancel the festival as it stands.

Leeds Festival organisers have denied that they have taken this decision to cancel this year's event.

LeedsLive was told that the three-day festival, that is due to take place in Bramham Park during the bank holiday weekend in August, had been called off due to concerns about the coronavirus.

But Festival Republic, which organises the festival, claims that no decision has been made yet.

Thousands of music fans have purchased tickets for the three-day festival due to take place during the Bank Holiday weekend in August.

However, Alec Shelbrooke, the MP who represents Braham where the festival was due to be held, had said that it will not go ahead.

Several other UK music festivals, such as Glastonbury, Radio's 1 Big Weekend and Download, were cancelled in March due to concerns about the virus, which has now claimed the lives of more than 31,000 people in the UK.

But tickets for Leeds Festival and Reading Festival are still being sold online.
