Leeds evening headlines as Rodrigo De Paul move in jeopardy and Bamford on 'frantic' Anfield clash

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Sunday, September 13.

Leeds face competition to sign Serie A midfielder

Leeds United have reportedly been dealt a blow in their efforts to sign Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul in this transfer window.

According to CalicoMercato , Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg have make inroads over a possible move for the midfielder who has been repeatedly linked with Leeds.

The report also states that De Paul would prefer a move to a big side in Italy rather than the Premier League with Juventus and both Milan clubs believed to be interested in acquiring his services.

While Leeds may be keen on signing the midfielder in this transfer window, recent reports suggest that his eye may be elsewhere.

Struijk takes big step on Premier League debut

Pascal Struijk answered a lot of unanswered questions on his Premier League debut against Liverpool on Saturday evening.

The Whites eventually lost 4-3 away to the reigning Premier League champions but equalised three times in a thoroughly entertaining game at Anfield.

A Mohamed Salah hat-trick and header from Virgil van Dijk ultimately handed Liverpool all three points but Struijk registered an impressive individual performance.

As Callum Rice-Coates writes , the defender stood up to the task relatively well against a star-studded Liverpool attack.

Bamford reveals truth behind ‘frantic’ Premier League opener

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford has revealed the truth behind a ‘frantic’ Premier League opener against Liverpool.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side eventually lost 4-3 in a dramatic affair at Anfield with Bamford scoring one of three equalising goals in the game.

Despite the loss, the striker had plenty of positives to take from the game.

He said : "It was frantic.

“I think before the game if somebody had 3-3 we’d have taken it.

“Getting so close and losing the game, even though we played quite well in patches, is annoying and frustrating.

“We showed a lot of character to keep coming back when we went down and we’ve shown that we can compete with the best of the best.

“Going forwards we need to be 100 per cent on it all of the time because with any slip up in the Premier League, you will get punished.”
