Leeds end interest in Bristol City's Callum O'Dowda despite top target joining Manchester United - report

Leeds United have cooled their interest in Bristol City star Callum O'Dowda after their pursuit of the winger in January.

The 24-year-old is expected to depart Ashton Gate this summer with contract talks at an impasse and just 12 months left on his current deal.

Leeds were expected to be one of his suitors alongside Nottingham Forest, however their offer is now off the table according to the Mirror .

That is despite the fact that their top target, Swansea 's Daniel James, is on the verge of joining Manchester United .

The Whites looked at O’Dowda during the January window during their search for a pacy wide player, but will not return for the Republic of Ireland international.

The Mirror's report does not explain exactly why Marcelo Bielsa's side are no longer interested in the player but it seems they will now look elsewhere.

In the past 24 hours the Elland Road side have been linked with Wolves winger Helder Costa and Ostersunds wide man Hosan Aiesh.

O'Dowda's future at Ashton Gate looks increasingly uncertain with the winger having not played since mid-March due to a knee injury and two weeks after the conclusion of the Championship season being called-up to the Republic of Ireland squad.

Robins head coach Lee Johnson had repeatedly hinted that O'Dowda's extended recovery was more mental than physical but has denied reports the 24-year-old had been "frozen out" of first-team plans due to his contract situation.

He has done little to allay fears he is on his way out of the club this week while he has been with the Ireland squad for their European Championship qualifiers against Denmark and Gibraltar, revealing there is "always interest" in him and talking up Forest boss Martin O'Neill, although he has also .
