Leeds East General Election 2019 result sees Richard Burgon claim comfortable victory

Labour’s Richard Burgon has been re-elected as the MP for Leeds East in the 2019 General Election.

He claimed a comfortable victory, taking almost 50 per cent of the vote and beating runner up Tory Jill Mortimer by 5,531 votes.

Voters from the likes of Halton, Colton, Gipton, Seacroft and Crossgates have decided to back the shadow justice secretary for a third term.

Burgon, a close ally of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, will also hope the exit poll is way off, as it has predicted a landslide victory for the Conservatives.
