Prosecutor Temitayo Dasaolu said Gill caught the man making a joint out of her Spice so challenged him and he swallowed the joint.

She said Gill then stabbed the man in the nose and the victim picked up a knife as well.

The defendant told the victim not to call police and left.

Police found the victim in the yard of St John's Church in the city centre and he was taken to hospital.

The defendant was found outside St George's Crypt in the city centre and taken to a police station.

She had changed her clothing and had been captured on CCTV disposing of it in a nearby bin.

Previous convictions and mitigation

Gill has previous convictions for violent offences, including battery and assaulting an emergency worker. She was subject to a suspended sentence at the time of the offence.

The court was told she abuses alcohol and substances.

Stephen Welford, mitigating, said his client had been physically abused as a child and had been the victim of domestic violence on numerous occasions.

He said she has been homeless many times and needs help and support.
