Leeds doctor who took part in vaccine campaign video dies from long Covid complications

A doctor from Leeds who tried to encourage people from ethnic minority communities to get the vaccine has died from long Covid complications.

Dr Saif Bangash, a consultant psychiatrist at Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT), contracted Covid-19 in summer 2020.

He returned to his native Pakistan in April 2021 to visit his father but during this time his condition worsened.

Despite receiving medical attention, Dr Saif died from lung complications as a result of suffering from long Covid on June 13.

Amanda Naylor, Operational Manager for Perinatal Services at LYPFT, said: “Saif had a very positive attitude and was a big part of our team. He was a very caring and supportive person and he did fantastic work promoting our service to diverse communities.

“To give you some insight to his generous nature, when he won a national essay competition earlier this year he kindly donated the prize money to his colleagues. He made a huge impact and will be sorely missed.”
