Leeds dentist's business booming as he opens second practice after securing £800,000 funding

An entrepreneurial Leeds dentist has secured £800,000 in funding to open a second dental practice - after seeing a surge in demand for cosmetic work.

It was in 2017 that James Cooper, 33, first took over Briggate Dental practice in Leeds city centre.

But the successful dentist soon realised he needed to expand his business in order to cope with the surge in demand for his services.

So, after securing an £800,000 funding, he took on Langdale Dental, in Headingley, Business Live reported.

The new venture has created eight new jobs in Leeds - including dentists, nurses and a facial aesthetics practitioner - as well as creating three apprenticeship opportunities.

The expanded staff team will help to cater to the needs of the 4,500 patients across both practices.

Mr Cooper joined Briggate Dental in 2013 as an associate dentist and said when it was put up for sale he “jumped at the chance” to buy the practice.

“It’s a lovely, friendly practice where staff put patients at ease and we’ve taken this ethos to Langdale,” he said.

Mr Copper also noted that he had seen an increase in demand for cosmetic dentistry.

He said: “A lot of people are having cosmetic work done because they’ve saved money during lockdown and braces are very on-trend.”
