Leeds dad quizzes Matt Hancock over parent fines and schools' safety when they reopen

A Leeds father got his chance to ask health secretary Matt Hancock a question during the latest coronavirus press conference.

When schools will reopen has remained one of the biggest topics for debate in recent weeks. This week, education chief Gavin Williamson revealed plans for a phased approach in the coming weeks, with some age groups returning before others.

There were no details on when this would be, though Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to outline how the UK will come out of lockdown at some point next week.

During today's (Friday) press conference, dad Andrew from Leeds quizzed Matt Hancock over the return for school pupils and how they would ensure it was safe.

He also posed an interesting question about fines for parents who decide they'd rather keep their child at home over safety concerns too.
