Leeds' Covid hotspots where cases are rising fastest

Covid rates continue to soar as national rates increase just weeks before Christmas.

And worryingly Omicron cases have risen by 65% in 24 hours as Brits are urged to get their life-saving Covid booster jabs by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Face mask rules have been reintroduced in shops and on public transport in a bid to battle rising cases.

The government has also sped up the booster vaccine programme to try and get as many people as possible jabbed.

Meanwhile, a further 48,854 Covid cases were recorded in the UK this week, an increase of 4,862 on last week's figures when 43,992 cases were reported.

The increase marks an 11.05% rise since last Sunday while a further 52 deaths were recorded.

The number of people who have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid dropped slight by 3.7% from 52 last week. The news comes as a grim reminder that the government may have to introduce even stricter measures in the run-up to Christmas.

In Leeds these are the areas with the highest rise in Covid infection rates:

1, Cross Flats Park and Garnets - Rate of increase: 250%. Cases 14.

2, East End Park and Richmond Hill - Rate of increase: 200%. Cases 14

3, Churwell - Rate of increase: 140%. Cases 60

4, Horsforth East - 137.5%. Cases 38

5, Hyde Park - 108.9%. Cases 9.
