Leeds courts closed for deep clean after Covid-19 outbreak

Courts in Leeds were closed for deep cleans today (Monday) due to an outbreak of coronavirus.

Leeds Combined Court Centre, which includes the crown court, the county court and the family court, will be closed all day after six people tested positive for Covid-19.

Cases were listed in 11 Crown courtrooms in the building today, including ongoing murder trials and the sentencing of a killer.

The building is due to reopen tomorrow.

Leeds Magistrates Court was also closed until 11.30am today as YorkshireLive understands that a limited part of the building was deep cleaned after a small number of people tested positive for coronavirus.

A spokesperson for HMCTS said: "Leeds Combined Court Centre is being deep cleaned as a precaution after six people tested positive for Covid-19.

"We are following public health guidelines to ensure the safety of all court users and the site is due to reopen tomorrow."
