Leeds couple trying for 13 years to have a baby speak of their agony

A Leeds couple have spoken of their pain after trying to conceive a child and become parents after 13 years.

Lucy, 34, and Scott Kennedy, 33, who married eight years ago, have long wanted to become parents but sadly, just after she had met Scott on her 21st birthday, Lucy was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome.

It meant the couple would struggle with infertility and doctors gave them the devastating news that the chances of having a baby would be very slim.

However, they refused to give up hope and began to try for a baby in 2008. Sadly, they are still trying today.

Lucy said: "It is very tough for me to speak about without getting extremely emotional.

"All I want is to become a mother, for us to become parents. It something we have wanted for so long."

After continuous attempts to conceive naturally, the couple explored other options of having a child and have decided to pursue IVF - despite them not meeting the NHS' criteria to have it.

Lucy said: "It's very difficult, extremely difficult. We just want to do anything we can to become parents."

After years of saving to raise funds, the couple have set up a GoFundMe page in their bid to realise their dream of becoming parents.

Lucy said: "We have never been in a position to get private IVF, just because of the enormous cost.

"But we have been saving, we have both cut back on things, we have stopped smoking - we just want to give ourselves the best possible chance.

"We are aware that IVF is not guaranteed to work the first time, but it's a real chance of this actually happening for us."

Lucy has been overjoyed to see friends and family donate.

She added: "I never ask for help and have always said no to a GoFundMe page. But I feel age isn't on my side, and it's sort of a now or never thing really.

What is IVF treatment

"Thank you to anyone who donates, you will never know how much it means to us."
