Leeds Council's vaccine plea as city now Yorkshire's Covid hotspot with rates soaring

Rising coronavirus cases in Leeds are among the unvaccinated populations, Leeds City Council has revealed.

The authority has said the rise is predominantly the 18-24 year-olds who have yet to receive their Covid jab.

This comes as the rates city-wide were discovered to be the worst in Yorkshire.

"We are doing everything we can to encourage vaccination uptake and deploying additional resources to areas of high prevalence of infection.

"We are working closely with the DHSC to offer additional testing for those both symptomatic and asymptomatic in high case rate areas and are encouraging people to socialise responsibly and continue to adhere to Covid prevention advice.”
