Leeds Council meeting latest

In the region of 40 protesters are occupying the council chamber at Leeds Civic Hall in protest at council cuts.

The meeting had been due to start at 1.30 today but the chamber has been occupied since 1pm by a group waving flags and banners chanting 'shame on you for turning blue' and 'we're not going anywhere'.
One of the protesters Martin Pearson said: "we are here because we do not want Leeds City council to make these cuts. There are up to 3,000 jobs at risk and we are opposed to the closure of Leeds Crisis Centre and day and residential centres.
These cuts are a disgrace and it's shameful the Labour administration is proposing them."

Leeds council chief exec Tom Riordan has asked protesters to leave the council chamber to no avail. He has now told protesters that the meeting has been abandoned.

Update at 2.40pm: All protesters have now left the Civic Hall and police have been posted outside the main entrance in case they return.

Update at 3.10pm Live coverage of this meeting will now continue via Twitter - follow @GdnLeeds as there is no wi-fi access available. The blog will also be updated later today.
