Organisers of a public meeting to discuss setting up a community-run shop in Leeds city centre have reported a 'fantastic response' to the idea so far.
As reported on this blog, a group of individuals are concerned over the recent closure of local store Simpsons near Brewery Wharf and have floated the idea of launching a community-run shop similar to the Natural Food Store in Headingley.
A public meeting will be held at the Adelphi on Wednesday, 8 September, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. You can register to attend the event over at this Eventbrite page. All welcome to attend.
Rob Greenland, from The Social Business, who has helped to organise the meeting, said:
"We've had 21 people sign up to come along to the meeting so far, which is a fantastic response. It'd be great if more people could come - whether they're interested in helping to open a shop in Dock Street, or the broader idea of a community-owned shop in Leeds City Centre."
