Leeds City Council pays more than other Yorkshire councils - and has one of smallest gender pay gaps

Leeds City Council employees earn more than those who work for any other local authority in Yorkshire.

The median wage at the council for 2017/18 was £24,332 - almost £6,000 more than what working at neighbouring Kirklees Council earn.

In fact, the median salary at Leeds City Council is almost £2,500 higher than at Selby District Council, which is the next-highest paying local authority in Yorkshire. Employees here earn a median salary of £21,836.

However, the figures - collated by Rangewell from Office for National Statistics data - show that while the gender pay gap in Leeds is one of the smallest across the region, there is a still a huge disparity between the earnings of men and women.

The median salary for a female employee at the council is £20,175, but male employees earn £28,835.

This means that there is a huge gender pay gap of £8,660 between male and female employees at Leeds City Council.

Despite that Harrogate Borough Council, Calderdale Council and Sheffield City Council are the only local authorities in Yorkshire to have a smaller gender pay gap than Leeds.
