The upcoming Leeds St Patrick’s Day Parade has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The event’s organisers felt it was the best course of action as Covid-19 continues to spread across the region.

It was one a number of Leeds events which has been cancelled or postponed to help repel the outbreak of the diease.

Leeds City Council spokesperson said: “Due to ongoing concerns regarding the Coronavirus, a decision has been taken by the organisers of the Leeds St Patrick’s Day Parade to cancel this year’s event in the city on Sunday.

“The Leeds St Patrick’s Day Parade remains one of the stand out events in our city’s cultural calendar, and we very much share the disappointment of organisers that unfortunately this year’s event cannot go ahead.

“We look forward to working with organisers to ensure that next year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in Leeds is one of the very best yet.”
