Leeds City Council has given an update on Sunday’s planned Leeds St Patrick’s Day Parade following the UK Coronavirus outbreak.
The spread of COVID-19 across the UK has been well-documented with there being talk of big events possibly being postponed.
Given Dublin’s St Patrick’s Day Parade has been cancelled we’ve contacted the council to see whether the Leeds event, scheduled for Sunday, March 15, is still taking place.
They’ve confirmed there’s currently no plans to cancel the annual event which takes place in Leeds city centre.
A Leeds City Council spokesperson said: “In line with government guidance, Leeds City Council isn’t currently advising stopping or limiting public gatherings.
“As a large local authority, it’s important we follow this advice and don’t send mixed messages to the public. The event is still planned to go ahead in accordance with this advice.”
The Government continues to monitor the spread of Coronavirus across the UK..
As of the last count, there were 319 UK cases of the virus and sadly, five deaths. There are five cases in Leeds, one in Ilkley and two cases in Barnsley. There are 10 overall in Yorkshire.
We’ll bring you more on plans for this weekend’s St Patrick’s Day Parade ahead of the event.
