Leeds campaign: 'Boycott a bus for Red Nose Day'

Leeds bus 2
Boycott a bus for Red Nose Day?

A Leeds-based campaign for better bus services and lower fares is calling on people to boycott a bus and give their fare to Red Nose Day.

The Fairer Fares campaign is calling for the action in a bid to boost its campaign for greater regulation of buses across West Yorkshire - and to raise money for a good cause.

Campaign organiser Stuart Long said:

"We're asking for people to donate their bus fare if they can. Cycle to or from work, car share with friends and family. If you're having a day off why not donate the saved fare to a good cause?

"The great people of Leeds and West Yorkshire have over the years provided great support to local good causes and charities and today we are calling them to help themselves and a good cause in a twofold action - help us in our campaign for cheaper, more regular and better locally regulated public transport services and at the same time make a donation to Red Nose Day or a local good cause.

"Further details of good causes and links for donation can be found on our website."

Long said a similar 'boycott' scheme at Christmas proved successful. He also said that his camapign had now gone national.
