Leeds cafe vandalised after racist incident points to co-owner's interests in Neo-Nazis

A popular Leeds cafe has had its shop front vandalised after a number of social media posts suggested links between co-owner Simon Erl and Neo-Nazis.

Temple Coffee and Donuts in Kirkstall had already faced a backlash on social media after a former employee came forward with her account of the racist abuse she received from another staff member while working there.

But shortly after the company issued an apology, they deleted all their social media accounts. And now screen shots have emerged showing co-owner Simon Erl's posts of apparently racist, anti-semitic and homophobic imagery.

This includes a flag of the Wolf's Angel symbol (the original logo for the Nazis before they adopted the swastika), cartoons of racist caricatures, and an image of Simon lying next to a homophobic slur.

It was also pointed out that he appears to have several Nazi-related tattoos, including one like the logo for Degesch, the German chemical company that supplied gas to concentration camps, on his knuckle.

He also has what appears to be a tattoo of the wolf's angel logo on his arm, and was pictured as recently as 2017 wearing a shirt that featured the iconography.

After these screenshots went viral on social media yesterday, all accounts related to Temple Coffee and Donuts in Kirkstall were deleted.

This morning (Tuesday, June 9), the shop front had been vandalised with "Simon Erl is Nazi Scum" graffitied across it, next to a plethora of placards urging customers to "boycott Temple", and telling "Nazi donuts" to "f*** off".

The locks on Temple also appear to have been filled with glue, according to an eyewitness at the scene.

LeedsLive has approached Simon Erl for comment.
