Leeds buses stop for two-minute silence in honour of drivers who died from coronavirus

Bus drivers all over Leeds pulled over for two minutes on Monday afternoon to pay tribute to two former colleagues who sadly died with Covid-19.

Passengers were warned about the mark of respect prior to the poignant tribute, which took place at 1.30pm on November 16.

In a statement, First Bus said: "At 1.30pm today, First in Leeds will pay tribute to two colleagues from the Hunslet Park depot who have tragically lost their lives recently.

"Colleagues will observe a 2-minute’s silence in their honour. Drivers will inform passengers and pull over where safe to do so."

First Bus issued a statement earlier this month to say they were "shocked" by the deaths of the two drivers, who have not yet been named.

The drivers last worked at the Hunslet Park depot on October 5 and October 13.

Paul Matthew, managing director of First West Yorkshire, said: "We are sad to confirm that two of our drivers have died from Covid-19.

"Our deepest sympathy and condolences are with their families and friends at this upsetting and difficult time."

"We are all shocked and are doing what we can to support the families and colleagues at the depot and across the company."
